Washington, D.C. – Paladin Capital Group, the multi-stage investor specializing in cyber and advanced technology, is pleased to announce that British engineer and cybersecurity expert Alex van Someren will join the firm as a Strategic Advisor. A key figure in the United Kingdom’s technology, venture capital, and national security sectors, Alex has co-founded several tech companies providing cybersecurity solutions, and in 2021, he was appointed the UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security. At Paladin, Alex will join the Strategic Advisory Group (SAG), which supports the firm by advising on government, security, intelligence, and commercial markets for the major global economies.

With decades of experience founding security-first tech companies such as ANT Software and nCipher as the Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security he provided independent scientific advice to the UK’s Intelligence Community and wider government. During this period, Alex also served as a consultant to the €1 Billion NATO Innovation Fund.

Before entering the national security sector, Alex was a managing partner at venture capital firm Amadeus Capital Partners, where he specialized in early stage investments in deep technology across the UK and Europe.
In addition to advising Paladin, Alex is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is also an honorary professor of computer science at the University of Manchester and previously served as the Clore Innovation Fellow at the Royal College of Art.
At Paladin, Alex will serve on Paladin’s Strategic Advisory Group (SAG), which consists of the world’s leading cyber and AI experts and advises the firm’s investment team on the cyber and AI landscape.
